Lu Bo Lang
A popular stop for visting dignitaries, Lu Bo Lang is a perfect photo op of a restaurant. The traditional three-story Chinese pavilion with up turned eaves sits next to the Bridge of Nine Turnings inthe Yu Garden complex. The food is good but not great, with many expensive fish choices on the menu. Among the best dishes are the crabmeat with bean curd, the braised eggplant with chili sauce, and the sweet osmantbus cake, made with the sweetly fragrant flower of the same name.
Laris
The signature restaurant of star Australian chef David Laris, this is one of the few Bund restautants with the owner/chef in residence. The innovatine continental-inspired cuisine is good and well presented, though service can often be problematic and sloppy, with complaints about the haughty staff being all too common. In our opinion, Laris survives more on hype than on substance.
Cloud 9.
Pudong can be an intimidating concrete jungle, with little respite in sight. If you're looking for refreshment on your Pudong safari, try Cloud 9 on the 87th floor of the Hyatt. Be aware, this is not a cheap lounge-there is a Y120 minimum and dress code, but the view is spectacular. Kick back and drink in the city laid out beneath you, while nibbling at their tasty Asian-inspired tapas and snacks.
