Shanghai Cuisine
Shanghai Cuisine, also called as Hu Cai, is a traditonal local cuisine influenced by Beijing cuisine, Yangzhou cuisine, Guangdong cuisine and Sichuan cuisine, together with the foods of Suzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo and Hangzhou flavors, making Shanghai an ideal "gourmet kingdom". With a long history that can be traced back to over 400 years ago, it is the youngest of the ten major cuisine in China. Today let TOC be your guide to dig deeper of this young cuisine!

Small Steamed Bun(小笼包)
Having been existed for over a century, small steamed bun is one of the most famous and yummy Shanghai snacks with thin-skinned, juicy and tasty to be its best features. Its filling is a mixture of minced lean pork, pork skin jelly and some other seasonings such as sesame, balsam, eggs, scallion, ginger, salt etc. Wrap pork filling with delicate pastry and have it steamed in bamboo container for about one hour, then a sweet-smelling small steamed bun is right on the table.Small steamed buns should be eaten when they are hot. After taking a bite at the wrapper, rich-taste soup will fill your mouth, retaining the scent for a long time.An inexhaustible aftertaste starts!

Chicken Rice Soup(鸡粥)
Chicken Rice Soup is an authentic local snack which is cooked with non-glutinous rice, chicken soup as well as chicken slices with other condiments such as scallion, salt, ginger etc. to be added in. Before serving the soup, cook always cuts the cooked chicken into 3 centimeters long and 0.6 centimeters wide together with a mixture of scallion, bruised ginger and chicken fat into the soup. Even when you simply cast a glimpse, your ravenous appetite will absolutely be aroused. When tasting, the tender tasty chicken with rich nutrition will make you on the top of the world.

Da Zha Xie(大闸蟹)
Da Zha Xie is a special type of crab found in rivers, and is normally consumed in the winter. The crabs are tied with ropes or strings, placed in bamboo containers, steamed and served. There few other artificial ingredients added to the dish yet it tastes fantastically good. Da Zha Xie is usually consumed with vinegar.Locals are also quite fussy about when to consume male crabs and when to consume female crabs.

Smoked Fish Slices(上海熏鱼)
An ideal menu for those who like highly spiced food. the Smoked Fish Slices (fresh fish marinated and spiced to taste like smoked fish) make a delicious, unusual hors doeuvre, while the strong-tasting Stewed Pork Flavoured with Dried Squid dish is offset by the vegetable rice to make a substantial meal.

Lu Bo Lang
A popular stop for visting dignitaries, Lu Bo Lang is a perfect photo op of a restaurant. The traditional three-story Chinese pavilion with up turned eaves sits next to the Bridge of Nine Turnings inthe Yu Garden complex. The food is good but not great, with many expensive fish choices on the menu. Among the best dishes are the crabmeat with bean curd, the braised eggplant with chili sauce, and the sweet osmantbus cake, made with the sweetly fragrant flower of the same name.
Laris
The signature restaurant of star Australian chef David Laris, this is one of the few Bund restautants with the owner/chef in residence. The innovatine continental-inspired cuisine is good and well presented, though service can often be problematic and sloppy, with complaints about the haughty staff being all too common. In our opinion, Laris survives more on hype than on substance.
Cloud 9
Pudong can be an intimidating concrete jungle, with little respite in sight. If you're looking for refreshment on your Pudong safari, try Cloud 9 on the 87th floor of the Hyatt. Be aware, this is not a cheap lounge-there is a Y120 minimum and dress code, but the view is spectacular. Kick back and drink in the city laid out beneath you, while nibbling at their tasty Asian-inspired tapas and snacks.
