The building of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre has signified the beginning of an artistic link to the world. The Centre, covering 5.2 hectares and offering 82,231m² gross floor area, commands a prime waterfront position. Since its grand opening on 8 November 1989, the Centre has remained the premier cultural venue offering stimulating environment for arts talents and quality programmes to the public, and has since been witnessing the development of the arts in Hong Kong. To cater for performing arts in Cultural Centre
To cater for performing arts of all variety, the Centre is designed to house three major performing halls, namely the Concert Hall, the Grand Theatre and the Studio Theatre. There is also an Exhibition Gallery and four foyer exhibition areas. Other ancillary facilities include eleven rehearsal and practice rooms and two conference rooms.
 

The history of Hong Kong Museum of culture centre
Sandwiched between the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Star Ferry concourse, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre is the territory's largest arena for the arts. Opened in 1989, this complex is a good bet for free music and events, including family shows on Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5pm that may include Chinese dance, a magic show, or music. Thursday Happy Hour, from 6 to 7pm, features Chinese classical music, Western music, puppetry, and other free shows by local performance groups. The pride of the Cultural Centre
The pride of the Cultural Centre is its 2,100-seat Concert Hall, home of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. It features a 93-stop, 8,000-pipe Austrian Rieger organ -- one of the world's largest. Two levels of seating surround the stage, which is set near the center of the oval hall. The center has two additional theaters: the Grand Theatre, used for musicals, large-scale drama, dance, film shows, and Chinese opera; and the smaller Studio Theatre, designed for experimental theater and dance. Box office daily 10am-9:30pm.
 

The oval-shape Concert Hall of the Cultural Centre
The oval-shape Concert Hall is designed for music performances. There are 2,019 seats in the two-tier auditorium. The hall is finished in high quality oak and fitted with adjustable acoustic canopy and curtains to ensure quality acoustics effect. Installed behind the open stage is a 93-stop, 8,000-pipe Austrian organ, one of the largest mechanical tracker action organs in the world.


The Grand Theatre of the Cultural Centre

The Grand Theatre is designed for large scale operas, ballets, musicals, dances and all sorts of theatrical spectaculars. The auditorium holds a total of 1,734 seats in three tiers. Technical features include a stage wagon with revolve, an electrically-operated orchestra pit for 110 musicians and infra-red simultaneous interpretation system for 5 languages.

The Grand Theatre is the busiest performing venue in the centre with a wide range of performances packed all year round.
 

The Studio Theatre of the Cultural Centre
The small but versatile Studio Theatre is designed with variable seating formats for end, transverse, thrust or arena stage set-up. Seating capacities range from 303 to 496 according to the chosen format. It is most suitable for small scale innovative dance and theatre productions.
Foyer exhibition areas of the Cultural Centre

There are 4 designated exhibition sites in the main foyer with adjustable spotlights and display panels for holding small-scale arts exhibitions.
