Where is Daguan Park?
Daguan Park, also called the Grand View Park,is located by Dianchi Lake in the southwestern suburbs of Kunming City,facing the rolling Taihua Mountains over the water.
Where does the name of Daguan Park come from?
The park received its name from the longest antithetical couplet (composing 180 Chinese characters) written by Sun Ranweng,a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty.It is a beach garden possessing both the natural landscape and elegance of an ancient garden.The entire park is dotted with green embankments,graceful pavilions, and colorful flowers in four seasons.
The history of Daguan Park
In 1682,a monk named Qianyin built a small temple here to give Buddhist lessons;eight years later,in 1690,the satrap of Yunnan Province Wang Jiwen was attracted by the beautiful natural views here and began to construct a whole park including many halls,pavilions,bonsais,rockeries,trees and porches.
Like many other Chinese ancient buildings,Daguan Pavilion also had been in disarray, destroyed and restored several times because of the dynastic changes and the civil wars.The present-day square,three-storied pavilion was established in 1883.Daguan Park became an attraction from then on.And the most famous spot among them is the Daguan Pavilion.
The view in Daguan Park
The Daguan Park (Daguanlou) itself offers great views of Dian Lake.It is also inscribed with a 180 character poem describing the beauty and history of the area.This poem is the longest of its kind in Chinese literature.The construction of the Tower is that of a typical well-preserved wooden pagoda.

Daguan Pavilion
Daguanlou is the Chinese name for Daguan Pavilion.Daguan means "the grand view",and since the sightseers can enjoy a very grand view on the pavilion thus it gets the name.
Located in the Daguang Park,Daguanlou was first built in 1828.It is a three-storied quaint timbered pavilions. In front of the pavilion,a lake perches there,there are three pagodas in its water,which is an imitation of the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon of the West Lake,Hangzhou.Climb on the Daguanlou, you can view the spectacular Dianchi Lake and the picturesque Western Mountain.In addition to enjoying the beauty,you will find a miracle on the pavilion—the longest couplet in the world.
