China has planned to build the highest airport Naqu Airport which is located in the north of Tibet in 2012. It is scheduled to open to the public in 2015. After its completion, tourists can fly directly to Tibet, and it will cut down the journey from Naqu to Lhasa.
The Naqu Airport is at 4,436 meters, which is 102 meters above the highest airport Tibetan Qamdo Bangda Airport in the world at present.
Naqu Airport is expected to cover about 1.4 million square meters, and invest 1.8 billion Yuan in total. There are 5 civil airports in Tibet, but some can not fly sometimes due to poor weather conditions.
Naqu Airport, the sixth airport in Tibet, will play an important role in improving Tibet's traffic basic installation and local economy.
